In-Person and On-Demand Newsroom Training Now Available for Students and Advisers
Quill and Scroll is proud to partner with Media Now to help students and advisers with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st Century newsroom.
Students and advisers have many ways to get the foundational skills they need for success and take their work to the next level. Media Now offers both in-person learning with energetic summer camps and online learning to support classrooms throughout the year.
Media Now Online —
Available Year Round
Media Now provides online, on-demand training for students and advisers available all the time. If you enroll in a class ($49/each), or the bundle of classes ($199 for all of them), you’ll have access to the materials for 1 year to use and review as much as you want.
There are new videos added each month and new opportunities coming for all subscribing members, including a couple of special opportunities for Editors and Advisers.
In the bundle, there are more than 170 videos subscribers have access to and videos and handouts you can use in your classroom with your staff. Courses include: Writing Essentials and Advanced, Design, Photography Essentials and Advanced, Advising Student Publications, Managing a News Website, Podcasting, Yearbook, Video Storytelling, Editorial Leadership and Social Media.
Media Now at Drake University

If in-person training is what you’re looking for we’d love to have you join us at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, July 6-9, 2022, for our four-day bootcamp to help take your journalism skills to the next level.
In our high-energy camp, students and advisers choose a single-track to immerse themselves in the four days. You get to participate in hands-on projects and showcase them in a campus-wide awards ceremony to cap off our time together. It’s an awesome opportunity to deep dive into that area of interest and hone your skills, all while you learn from some of the best advisers, college professors and media professionals in the country. No matter what level you arrive with, we’ll push you, encourage and train you to move to the next.
If you live in the St. Louis area or can get there, there’s even a bus option to help get you there.
If that’s not motivation enough to join us at Drake University, you’ll leave camp with a wardrobe of sweet Media Now shirts, you’ll likely get to meet and get your photo taken with Drake’s Bulldog mascot Griff, and Drake University usually has a really, really nice parting gift for all campers.

In-person training can also be found at Webster University in St. Louis, for our two-day Summer Jam aimed to help you boost your journalism skills for the year ahead.
You have eight course options to choose from for this 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. two-day jam. Join us and our seasoned Media Now instructors, who range from some of the top high school advisers in the country to media professionals, as we get you ready to make your publications thrive in the coming school year.
Classes include:
Design, Editorial Leadership, Beginning Photography, Advanced Photography, Yearbook, Video, Reporting and Writing and Advising Publications. School Newspapers Online (SNO) will also be there to help staffs with their online news sites.
