Quill and Scroll conducts two major competitions each year.
Writing, Photo and Multimedia Contest and Blogging Competition
Currently enrolled high school students are invited to enter the International Writing, Photo and Multimedia Contest and Blogging Competition. International Writing, Photo and Multimedia Sweepstakes winners receive a plaque. Blogging Competition winners receive a digital badge. Individual winners receive Quill and Scroll’s National Award Gold Key and, as seniors, are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
Yearbook Excellence Contest
Winners of the Quill and Scroll Yearbook Excellence Contest are eligible as seniors to apply for a scholarship. Any member school is eligible to enter regardless of which company published the yearbook in any given year.
Blue and Gold Awards
These awards honor high school journalism programs that excelled in the International Writing, Photo and Multimedia Contest or in the Yearbook Excellence Contest. As a participant in either of these contests, school media staffs are automatically given entry to this contest.
News Media Evaluation
The News Media Evaluation provides media staffs a one-of-a-kind self-assessment, thorough analysis and rating of your publication, with constructive comments and suggestions for improvement from qualified evaluators. The evaluation exercise and feedback are instructive and developmental. The ratings are motivational. High schools and junior high schools may enter their newspapers or news magazines during the submission period – April 1 through June 15. Entries and ratings are returned in September. This service is open to non-member schools as well as member schools.
